1).Age Limit :- The individuals must fall under the age of 17 years to 21 years. (For both entry level or trades of Steward and Cook).

a).MR(Matric Recruit):- Individuals should have passed matric exam(10th passed) or equivalent from a recognized educational board for the post of  Steward & Cook post.

3).Marital Status:- Individual must be unmarried.(Steward & Cook).

  1. Height:-The minimum height of the candidates are set as 157 cm.

Indian Navy Steward/Cook Recruitment Selection Process 2018


The selection process is conducted upon the various criteria that are set for the recruitment of new batch of cadets for the Steward and Cook post.However only those candidates who are found to be eligible for the post under the eligibility criteria will be allowed to appear the selection process.
Those candidates who are found to be eligible for the recruitment will then be sent call-up letter cum admit that will provide the candidates with schedule of the exam indicating date,time and the center for the examination. Written Exam:-

There are various syllabus and the topics that are covered for the written exam these topics and syllabus are prescribed according to the entry level and to ensure the selection in this phase the candidates are required to score at-least the minimum passing marks or higher marks  which will benefit the candidates.
The written exam will be conducted upon various section or subjects as per the entry level:-

MR(Matric Recruit):- The written exam will be conducted on various section of English, Science, General Knowledge, Maths and the exam duration will be for 60 minutes or 1 hour.
The questions set for the written exam will be based on objective type question with multiple choice question.

There will be presence of negative marking scheme for every incorrect answer provided by the individuals. Candidates are required to pass in every section or subject and in aggregate with the minimum marks as per the requirement.

NMR(Non Matric Recruit):- The written exam conducted fr this entry level will be based on two section of Mathematics and General Knowledge and the total duration will be of 40 minutes for the exam.
The questions set for the written exam will be based on objective type question with multiple choice question. There will be presence of negative marking scheme for every incorrect answer provided by the individuals. Candidates are required to pass in every section or subject and in aggregate with the minimum marks as per the requirement.

The candidates who have cleared their written exam will then be shortlisted for the next phase for the selection process that will be conducted based on different criteria as per the requirement.

Physical Test/Physical Fitness Test(PFT):-

This phase of the selection process is based on the physical fitness of the candidates which are must for the candidates in order to fulfill the duties and the task that will be entrusted to them during their service periods.

The physical fitness of the candidates is test through the physical task which the candidates will have to complete within the time that has been allotted for each of the physical test and that in a proper manner.

The physical test is one phase where the candidates will undergo at their own risk in case of any courtesy.The physical test comprises of the following task:-

Running:- The candidates will need to run for a total distance of 1.6 km within the given time span of 7 minutes and if the candidates complete the task within less time than 7 minutes will earn some extra marks and if time taken by the candidates exceeds more than 7 minutes will result in individuals scoring lesser marks for the task.

Squats(Uthak Baithak):- The candidates will need to complete 25 squats within the time that has been given for this task and the marks distribution will be according to the time taken by the candidates to complete the task.

Push Up:- Tho clear this task the candidates must perform and complete 10 push up within the time that have been set for this task.The task should be completed in a fair and proper manner by the candidates. Task completed in lesser time than the actual time limit will earn the individuals with extra and higher marks.

The results will be declared within the same day and candidates who have been selected and cleared their physical test then will have to under go the next phase of the selection process mentioned below.

Medical Test:- 

Since the PFT was based on the physical ability of the cadets likewise in this phase of the selection process the candidates will be examined in terms of their medical status depending upon the various medical criteria as set for the medical requirements of the candidates.The medical test will be conducted under the supervision of specialist of the Military Medical Corps based on the various medical criteria as mentioned:-

  1. Medical health:- To ensure the individuals do not possess any sort of long term diseases or illness or bone deformity.
  2. Mental health:- The mental health of the candidates are absolute requirement and the candidates must have a good mental health or should not be mentally unstable.
  3. Eye sight/Vision:- As one of the basic sense the candidates must have a better eye vision.
  4. Oral Health:- The oral health of the candidates are also important in term of any gum disease the candidates can be declared unfit.
  5. Hearing Ability:- The hearing ability of the cadets should be good,presence of wax may also effect the test of the candidates and be rejected.

Therefore the candidates will be required to be medically fit to be declared as medically fit and the candidates who have cleared the entire selection process and the medical test will then be shortlisted based on the merit list that will declare the result.

Merit List:-

 The merit list is based on the performance and the marks which the candidates have obtained throughout the selection process,therefore while preparing the merit list only those candidates who have qualified in all respects will be considered.But only those candidates will be shortlisted who have been found to be the best among the other candidates in all Indian basis.

Only number of candidates will be selected depending upon the number to be inducted when the merit list is prepared a IHQ MOD (Navy) new Delhi. The candidates who have been selected in the merit list will then have to report for the final medical examination that is held in INS Chika (Odisha.)

Final Enrollment Medical:- 

The candidates who have been selected through the merit list will then have to clear the final medical test prior to their initial training. The candidates who have been found to be fit during the final medical will then be selected for the initial training however the candidates who have been found to be unfit during the medical will be disqualified.

The candidates will be provided with the sleeper class rail/bus fare being reimbursed when the ticket/receipt is produced by the candidates while reporting at the INS Chika. The candidates who are selected after the final medical test will have to undergo certain training phase before being commissioned under the Indian Navy.
