The candidates must have studied at-least eight(8) subjects.

Aeronautical Engineering Course(Mechanical):- Four year degree from any recognized University/Passed the examination(Section A & B) of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineering/Passed the exam of Aeronautical Society of India(Section A & B).

The candidates must have studied 8 subjects which are the mandatory subjects during their educational period.


3. Ground Branch:- The ground branch of the IAF is also known as the GDBC( Ground Duty Officers Course) is the ground based unit that operates the entire administrative section of the IAF. However there are other various section of the ground branch which is offered to the candidates depending upon the eligibility of the candidates as per the requirement set for each of the unit of the ground branch:-

NDA Entry:- Aspirants applying through the NDA entry require to have passed their respective 10th standard or with 10+2 educational qualification(12th passed) 60% form science  background with Maths and Physics being the compulsory subjects from any recognized educational board.

1).Administrative Section:- The administrative section involves the Air Traffic Control,Fighter Controller.

The candidates should be a graduate in any discipline with 60% in aggregate terms.
50% marks in aggregate terms for Post Graduate candidates or with equivalent diploma in any discipline.

2).Accounts Section:- This section deals with the entire financial management of the entire air force unit.

Graduate individuals:- The educational qualification should be Graduate Degree in Commerce (B.Com) with the minimum of 60% in aggregate terms in all paper.
Post Graduate individuals:- The candidates will require to a Post Graduate in Commerce(M.Com) or CA or ICWA with the minimum requirement of 50% in aggregate terms in overall paper.

3).Logistic Branch:-This section is responsible for the management of the various materials and the resources that are required by the IAF,such as the supervision over inventories,different range of equipment.
Graduate Candidates:- Should have attained graduation from any discipline with the 60% as the minimum marks required in overall papers and in aggregate.

Post Graduate Candidates:- Should possess the post graduation degree in any discipline or equivalent degree with minimum of 50% in aggregate and in all the papers.

4).Educational Section:- This section of the ground branch is only offered to the candidates who are post graduates with the following requirements.
Post Graduation Degree in any discipline with the minimum requirement of 50% in all the paper and in aggregate.

5).Meteorology section:- This section of the ground branch is entrusted with duties to operate the various equipment regarding the satellite imaginary and monitoring equipment an such.

The candidates must be a post graduate individual with the degree in any Science Stream/Maths/Statistics/Geography/Computer Application/Environmental Science/Applied Physics/Oceanography/Agriculture Meteorology/Ecology & Environment/Geo-Physics/Environmental Biology with the minimum of 50% in aggregate an in all the papers and should have studied Maths and Physics during graduation and should have scored minimum of 55% in each of the subjects.

1).Age Limit:- The age limit is one basic eligibility for the candidates to qualify under and the age limit will vary depending upon the trades as per the requirement.

For Soldier GD individuals the age limit is between 17 years 6 months to 21 years.
For the other trades such as Clerk/SKT,Soldier Technical/Tradesmen the age limit is  17 years 6 months to 23 years.

2).Educational Qualification:-  The criteria is based upon the educational qualification of the candidates to determine the educational eligibility of the candidates apply for the various post of :-

Soldier GD:- Matric (10th) pass with minimum 45% in aggregate form any educational board and for candidates with higher educational qualification simple pass will determine the eligibility of the candidates.

If a candidate is a graduate or has a higher qualification percentage marks scored in Class XII would be applicable towards his eligibility.

Soldier Technical:- There are three major branches under the trade therefore the eligibility will be mention category wise:

a)Soldier Technical:- Candidates who are 10+2/Intermediate Exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with 50% marks in aggregate and 40% marks in each subject are eligible for the trade.

b)Soldier Technical (Aviation & Ammunition):- Candidates with 10 +2 / Intermediate exam pass in Science with Physics, Chemistry, Maths and English with 50% marks in aggregate and 40% marks in each subject. OR Three years Diploma in Engg (Mechanical /Electrical/ Automobiles/ Computer Science Mechanical Engg and Electronic & Instrumentation Engg) from a recognized Polytechnic Institute determine their eligibility.

Tradesmen:- The candidates should have a minimum educational qualification of 8th passed and higher level in order to be eligible to apply for the selection process.

Physical Standards:- The physical standards are based on the physical health of the candidates and the standards such as:-
  • Height: 17 cm.
  • Weight:- 50 kg.
  • Chest:- 77 to 82 with minimum of 5 cm expansion.
The candidates under different categories will be offered relaxation in term of the physical standards which has been provided below:

Physical Test/Physical Fitness Test(PFT):-

  1. 10 pull ups :- 40 marks,
  2. 9 pull ups:- 33 marks,
  3. 8 pull ups :- 27 marks,
  4. 7 pull ups :- 21 marks,
  5. 6 pull ups :- 16 marks.

The candidates who are not able to complete minimum 6 pull ups will be disqualified.

Balancing:- The balancing of the candidates are must and they are required to maintain balance upon a wooden panel or rope as per the requirement.Although this test does not fetch any marks for the individuals but the candidates must clear the test.

9 feet ditch:- As similar to balancing this test is not for any marks but since the jump of the candidate are very important during their service period in case of operations.
So the cadets must clear the test by jumping over pitch and such as required.Only those candidates who clear the physical test will be selected to undergo the following medical test.

Medical Test:-

The candidates who have been selected through the  physical test will then under go the medical test that will be conducted by the Military Medical Corps specialist based on the strict medical criteria that have been set as per the medical requirement.

  2. Mental Health
  3. Oral Health
  4. Eye Sight/Vision

The Indian Navy holds the recruitment of new candidates through various categories such as the recruitment for MN(Matric Recruti),NMR (Non Matric Recruit),SSR (Senior Secondary recruit),AA (Artificer Apprentices). These recruitment of the new cadets are conducted through the various stages of the recruitment process that comprises  of series of test such as follows:-
  1. Entrance Exam
  2. Physical Test/PFT(Physical Fitness Test)
  3. Medical Test

1). Entrance Exam:- 
The entrance exams is the first phase of the recruitment process that candidates have to clear to be shortlisted for the following phase of the recruitment process. The exam pattern and the syllabus that covers up the topics for the written exam varies based upon the entry level for which the cadets have enrolled for.

NOTE:-The candidates who have been selected to appear for the written exam of the respective entry level for the post should be clear or pass the written exam so on to be selected for the next phase of the selection procedure.

However the candidates if can score higher marks than the required minimum pass marks shall only benefit the cadets in the latter phase of the selection.

Candidate who clear the written exams are then shortlisted based on their score in the written test and the selected cadets are selected for the following selection phase.

2).Physical Test/PFT (Physical Fitness Test):- 

The physical test or the physical fitness test is conducted to examine the physical health and status of the selected cadets.Cadets are asked to perform certain physical works outs or exercises which will be the test for a candidate during the phase of PFT.

To serve as a service men under the navy one must possess the required physical health so on to carry their respective duties to the fullest. Following are the tasks which the candidates are to perform during their physical fitness test or the physical test:-

  1. Running: 1.6 km within 7 minutes.
  2. Push-ups: 10.
  3. Squats(Uthak Baithak): 20
  4. Height. (157 cm minimum)
  5. Weight. (depending on the age and height of the candidates)
  6. Chest measurement.

NOTE:-The candidates should perform all the above task within the given time and the marks shall be given based on the tasks performed by the cadets,therefore the each of these task should be performed in the proper manner by the cadets.

Candidate will be shortlisted after this phase of the selection and only the cadets who have performed well are selected for the next phase that follows which is the medical test of the cadets.

3).Medical Test:-

The candidates shall be thoroughly examined by the medical officials of the navy to confirm the medical fitness of the cadets. This test is conducted under the supervision of the authorized medical personnel who during this test shortlist those candidates who are medically unfit.

Medical examination shall be conducted according to the medical standard prescribed in current regulations applicable to different entry level of the navy. Main priority of the medical test is based upon the following test that is conducted such test are :

  • Medical health.
  • Mental health.
  • Oral health.
  • Eye Sight.

NOTE:-The candidates who have been declared permanently unfit during this test shall be no longer eligible to be recruited and hence the cadets shall be rejected.

Candidate who have been declared temporary unfit during the medical test can avail special review from a Military hospital through the authorize medical personnel of the Medical Corps,but within the maximum period of 21 days after which no further review is permissible.

The medical test maybe completed in a day or more depending upon the number cadets selected from the earlier stage of the recruitment and cadets who are selected during the medical test are shortlisted for the merit list.

4).Merit List:-

The merit list is the final selection of the cadets who have cleared all the recruitment stages.However the merit list is made with the names of the selected cadets who have performed better in the overall recruitment phases.Therefore the cadet who have scored higher scores in every stage with a higher aggregate or overall performance shall be selected.

The shortlisting shall be based upon the number of new recruits to be induced into the navy.

5).Final Enrollment Medical/Final Screening:-

All of the candidates who have been shortlisted in the merit list shall be informed to appear for the final enrollment medical test or the final screening which is held in INS Chilka(Odisha) o the specified date prior to final training of the cadets.

All the cadets shall be provided with special transportation refunds when produced to the concerned authorities. Hence the final enrollment medical shall determine the final selection of the cadets.
Candidate found to be unfit during this final medical shall be rejected  and will not be enrolled for their training.
